Caravan options to consider in Adelaide
The construction and features of caravans can differ dramatically. So, when you're looking to buy a caravan in Adelaide, choosing an RV type, brand, and model is all about considering your personal preferences, travel style, the number of people travelling, and your budget.
One of the most significant benefits of Camperagent's partnership with the Apollo RV Super Centre is that we have access to a vast range of Australia's top brands and models and we are competitive in price. We also sell pop-top and hybrid caravans (a cross between a caravan and a camper trailer) that will give you even more flexibility on and off the road.

Your budget is probably the first consideration, but the next is the number of people travelling. Solo travellers will need much less room and may be happy with entry-level features, including outdoor cooking options rather than a full kitchen. Retirees considering life on the road may be happy to pay for add-ons to make their nomadic lifestyle as comfortable as possible. And those with families will need to consider practicalities like bedding options and where to store all the kids' camping toys! Where you plan on travelling is also important. If you're looking to meander your way across Australia's tarmacs, then a tourer may suit. If you want to go all out in terms of adventure, then an off-grid model is a wise choice!
The amount of weight you can safely tow depends on your vehicle type. Overloading your vehicle can be very dangerous and cause a lot of damage to your car and your caravan. Your vehicle's Gross Combined Mass (GCM) is the first factor you must consider. This is the maximum allowable combined weight of your tow vehicle and caravan. Many assume that the GCM is simply the maximum weight of the tow vehicle (the GVM) plus its towing capacity (how much weight it can tow). However, that's not always the case. Choosing a caravan well below the maximum towing capacity is much safer, as it will allow extra weight for things like your vehicle's TARE, ball weight and payload. TARE is the vehicle's weight when empty, ball weight is the caravan's weight plus the tow ball, and payload includes the weight of the driver, passengers, and all your gear. The Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM) is the maximum weight of the loaded caravan, including all gear. It must not exceed your vehicle's towing capacity.
Your budget is crucial, so you'll need to factor in costs beyond just the price of the caravan, such as insurance, registration, fuel, maintenance, servicing, and ongoing park fees. Also, consider your towing experience. If you're new to towing, handling a larger caravan might be difficult, as it requires specific skills like reducing swaying, allowing extra braking distance, properly securing weight, and understanding both your caravan's and vehicle's limits. You'll also need to be able to reverse, manoeuvre, and park a large, heavy caravan. Think about where you'll be towing your caravan. If you're sticking to sealed roads, a touring caravan is ideal. But if you plan to travel on rougher, corrugated roads, a semi-off-road caravan with suitable suspension, wheels, and ground clearance is better. Finally, consider how much time you'll spend on the road. A smaller caravan may be sufficient if you're only taking short weekend trips. However, if you're planning longer adventures, you'll want a caravan with features like water tanks, solar panels, plenty of storage, and comfort upgrades like an ensuite and kitchen.
